Is it a good advise to use a textbook as an only guide for teaching?
I consider that the textbook is a helpful tool for teaching every level students because the they can have a real material to deal with, also for visual students the textbook is a powerful device. However, as teachers we need to learn how to use it and we have have to complement the book with other sources or material such as videos, slides, the Internet, games, etc. in order to get our goal which in this case is the students´understanding.
The experiment
To apply the Experiment method, I would prove my point of view through the selection of 2 classrooms as a sample. The first group will be provided with a textbook and the students will follow it. I would use a unit with a certain topic. The second group will have a big selection of activities and they will use the textbook just when the teacher considers it necessary, of course they will learn the same topic or unit. After that, I would make a quiz to verify the students ‘understanding.
Survey Research
To solve my Hypothesis, I could use the Survey Research. I would select 10 teachers from different institutions. They will be my sample. I think it is important to choose the questions carefully, they must be short answers and easy to understand so, it will be easy to measure them.
Observation
To verify my hypothesis, I would observe different group of students in a real classroom. I will collect all the information about the use of the book and the implementation of different tools in the classroom. I consider it is necessary to observe the groups for around a month.
Secondary Data
To provide gathered information to my research I would use The Secondary Data Research. Through this method I can add some relevant information to my work. This data could be found on the Internet (other researchers), books, articles, magazines and information from the government, or reliable agencies.
